3 Bible Verses to Remind You Where God is within Injustice

18 “You shall appoint judges and officers in all your towns that the Lord your God is giving you, according to your tribes, and they shall judge the people with righteous judgment. 19 You shall not pervert justice. You shall not show partiality, and you shall not accept a bribe, for a bribe blinds the eyes of the wise and subverts the cause of the righteous. 20 Justice, and only justice, you shall follow, that you may live and inherit the land that the Lord your God is giving you.
— Deuteronomy 16:18-20 (ESV)

How can we begin to understand the magnitude of the brokenness and pain within the racial divide? I'm not equipped to speak on the subject as elegantly as others, but please stick with me for this. Clothed in white skin, I've looked away ignoring the blatant injustice time and time again.

***

JUSTICE IS DEFINED AS "A DIVINELY RIGHTEOUS ACTION, WHETHER TAKEN BY HUMANITY OR GOD, THAT PROMOTES EQUALITY AMONG HUMANITY." SOURCE

ALL LIFE IS SACRED AND VALUABLE.

Knowing that fact is different than living it.

I wonder, at what point does silence begin to sound and look like acceptance? Because God forbid, it is not okay.

How does it change?

I know my experience is different from yours, but can we just sit together for a minute? Whatever place you're in within understanding the complexities of this modern-day racism... let's look at 3 things the Bible shares about the justice that follows.

Where is God in the injustice?

1. GOD IS JUSTICE (DEUTERONOMY 32:4) AND IT'S IN HIS CHARACTER

2. JESUS PROVIDES PEACE AND RIGHTEOUSNESS (ISAIAH 9:6-7)

3. WE MUST PURSUE JUSTICE (SEE DEUTERONOMY 16:18-20 ABOVE)

In Christianity there is great significance on sacrifice. Yet Proverbs 21:3 shares that God puts more significance on doing what's right and just than sacrifice.

Perhaps we should pay attention.

God has and is equipping His people to be His mouthpiece.

Maybe it looks like:

  • electing leaders who care for all life,

  • signing a petition,

  • calling government authorities,

  • preaching a sermon to your congregation,

  • or furthering your education

  • and entering the conversation for change.

As we see and acknowledge the brokenness and wait for it to be put back together by a God who loves, cares, and fights harder than we ever can... we get to lament, reflect, prayerfully consider our next steps and pursue justice in the direction Holy Spirit directs.

I don't think our question should be,
"Where is God in the injustice" but "Where are we?".

Spend a few minutes right now asking God, "In the wake of disappointment, who or what is my go-to?".

Right now take time and thank God for all He's doing in your personal life, the life of your friends, family, and your church!

God is at work all around us (and in us), don't miss it!
